Little Burro

If you work around cwb area, you should be no stranger to Little Burro. They've been around for quite awhile now, serving us with quality and delish American-Mexican food. And now they expanded further west on the Island. It was actually the first American-Mexican resto we visited when we were first introduced to American-Mexican food 2 years ago.

We know nothing about authentic Mexican food, the one clue we have is that Mexican food is really spicy, it's so spicy that it makes you poop lol. American-Mexican on the other hand is less spicy yet cheesier, we reckon? Without further due, let's jump right into it.
We went to the shop on Upper Station Street, there are heaps of new restaurant opened around that area, still waiting for a good cupcake shop tho. And there are so many cool graffiti lately, so make sure you check them out too.
Excuse the aftermath we left on the table ha! The shop is not too big but the design is pretty ghetto chic. I remember they posted a picture of them hosting a partying for HKU students not too long ago on their Instagram. It's just really cool throwing a taco party, isn't it?
Everyone is telling us to try their burrito and rice bowl but we just don't really like burrito for some reason, maybe it's too filling or maybe it's the carb. Their portion is just right, we find some taco from elsewhere too big for one to finish.

Smokey Chipotle Chicken Quesadillas $88; Soft Fish Taco $80; Tortilla Chips & Guac $38
Smokey Chipotle Chicken Quesadillas
This is a plate of yummy evilness! The tortillas were perfectly grilled and crispy; cheese was oozing down the side; meat was well-seasoned and tender; the black beans were soft and mushy in the inside, and to top it off with the sour cream and salsa ahhh! We actually really liked the flavour of the salsa here, so make sure you have salsa, sour cream and guac every single bite, that's how we roll!
Soft Fish Taco
This is one of the best fish tacos we have ever had! It's exactly what you'd expect from an ahmazing fish taco! The fish was spiced and deep-fried and surprisingly tender, soft and not soggy at all! Now here comes the best bit, I don't know if the mango and papaya salsa is authentic Mexican flavour, but oh mah gawd it's so effing good. It's like perfect combo with the fish! And look at those cheese on top, somebody get me tissues, my keyboard is weeeeet! *slurp slurp*
Tortilla Chips & Guac
We just love snacking on nachos, we can do it errday all day! If you're like us, you have to order this bowl of goodness when you visit Little Burro. The guac was on point, we love how it was not very salty but you could taste the saltiness that brought out the avocado flavour and it wasn't blended all the way thru, you could still find a few trunks of avocado pulp in there. And the colourful nachos just bring the whole presentation to another level.

Let us know which Mexican resto is your fav on Instagram @thefatkidprobs, maybe we'll get around to try that too! Have a wonderful weekend peeps!

Pho Sure! 2.0

If Chômchôm was Katy Perry, Bêp (which is under the group of Nha Trang) had to be Beyonce because it hasn't only got the look but it's the whole package. It looks great, tastes sensational which makes it certainly the best Viet restaurant in HK. Last time we had a post on Chômchôm which we weren't really impressed. We will tell you why and how we think Bêp is better than Chômchôm right about now.

First, Bêp has two shops so you could always make your way to the other one when one is full; and Chômchôm only has one. We usually go to the one in Soho; next to Pure Fitness, we only went to this one on Wellington Street; right next to Mana, for blogging because it's so much brighter here. Here's something you may not know, although they have the same menu, the food is much better at the one in Soho for some reasons.

Second, they have a larger variety of choices than Chômchôm, not to mention Chômchôm doesn't even have pho which is really disappointing! But there's one thing Chômchôm does better than Bêp is that they have better rice paper rolls. ( If you really want rolls in Bêp, try the fish rolls called Ca Chien Cuon. It's not too bad! )

Beef Salad $90; Calamari Cake $68; Rice Platter $90; Bun Vermicelli with Pork $78;
Beef Salad
This is defo not one of those healthy salads but this is probably one of the tastiest salads we have ever had. It has so much flavours and it's that kind of salads that wouldn't make you feel like, okay I'm eating straight grass now. The sauce is very vietnamese, sour, citrus, super refreshing. The char-grilled beef is tender and smoky; tomatoes are juicy and fresh; the crushed peanuts and sesame are awesome. However, surprisingly, we found ourselves enjoy eating the onions and tomatoes more than the beef.

Calamari Cake
Compare to other vietnamese food, this calamari cake has a milder flavour, not saying it's less tasty than any other dishes tho. We actually love it! You can actually find real calarmi bits inside and there's also chopped red pepper and water chestnut. This is certainly one of the dishes we order every time.

Rice Platter
If I have to use one word to describe this rice platter, it has to be 'satisfying'. This is the dish that constantly comes into my mind when I feel proper hungry. It has a BIG slice of honey glazed pork cutlet, it's huge and so delicious. For those of you who don't like hard and tough pork chop, I guarantee you this is not the case in Bêp!  There's also a fried egg, and some caramelised braised shrimps, and rice, I mean what more can you ask for?

Bun Vermicelli with Pork
In Bêp you can either have Pho or Bun. If you feel like having some fabulous pork cutlet, you have to order this Bun Xuong Nuong! Nothing could ever go wrong with Bun Vermicelli, top it off with the fermented carrots and viet sauce, just bring it the a whole new level. Besides, the Pho Nam is pretty awesome too, love the mint and basil together.

What are you guys up to this weekend? We is pretty excited for the Lily Allen's gig, see you there maybe? *wink*

Pho Sure!

Chômchôm has been around for quite a while, we've been dying to try for too long. Firstly because we love Vietnamese food, I mean who doesn't? Secondly it was one of the most highly anticipated restaurants on our to-go list because everyone's been telling us how good it is and how it is better than Bêp (One of our fave Vietnamese restaurants), which turned out to be false, Bêp FTW! I seriously don't understand why people like it that much, maybe the chef just wasn't in the right mood that day, maybe?

It's located on Peel Street; right down Brunch Club, opposite 7-11. We've walked pass it too many times and not realising its existence prob because it doesn't look very Vietnamese? And those stairs outside, BE CAREFUL!! Just a friendly reminder.

They open at half 4 everyday and to get the perfect daylight for blogging, we went there as soon as they opened aka the most awkward time for lunch/ tea/ early dinner? Btw, those handwriting on the mirror, love that!

First thing's first, they do not have pho which is velly velly disappointing! We can't help but order pho every time we visit a Vietnamese restaurant. We actually spent really long time deciding what to order despite the fact that they didn't have a large variety pfft!

VFC $88; Shrimp & Roasted Pork Rice Paper Roll $78; Bun Cha Pork Skewer $128

VFC
Vietnamese fried chicken wings, couldn't/shouldn't be bad but they were bad... They were just overpowered and really salty, they were like your-lips-and-gum-get-swollen-after-the-first-bite salty, you get the idea lol. We're the biggest fans of chicken wings but it was too salty that we couldn't finish JUST EIGHT chicken wings. But to be honest, even if they are less salty, they are just ordinary chicken wings which you could easily find them somewhere else or make them yourselves, just saying!

Shrimp & Roasted Pork Rice Paper Roll
This was the only good dish we had sadly. I mean if the other dishes taste as good as this one, we might actually come again. We were actually so glad that they were not overly salty, or we were gonna leave with empty belly. You usually get either pork, chicken or soft shell crab in rice paper rolls, but this one they had both pork and shrimp #greediness. All the other usual ingredients were fresh and the rice paper was soft and chewy. We just hate dried out rice paper.

Bun Cha Pork Skewer
Have absolute no idea what the name means ha but basically there were pork belly, pork shoulder and vermicelli which I convinced myself it shall taste kinda like that bun vermicelli at Bêp. But again, this was too salty that it hurter our gum, maybe it'd be better if the bae didn't pour all the sauce in it, just maybe?

I know some people like Chômchôm a lot but we found it completely overrated. I wouldn't have expected that much if the Brit girl from work didn't keep telling they are way better than Bêp
(from her opinion which is nonsense!). No expectations = no disappointments duh!
But hey there was one thing that we like them better than Bêp, Chômchôm is more airy and it has the daylight peeking in which allows us to take pics and blog ha!

Pizza Because Why Not

Soz for being super MIA these days, you gotta bare with a PR student that has 3 assignments due at the same week and 2 more exams the following week sigh! I also missed out a Christmas party with loads of yummy food, not to mention partying with a model... thanks uni! Anyways, we were meant to upload this last week but better late than never *wink*

We've been to this pizza place a while back and we loved it! This time we went back again for the calamari, okay, call me square, I'm basically one of those people who order the same dish every single time, I mean what's the point of trying something else when you have found something you like so much. #sorrynotsorry

This pizza place is located on Tai Ping Shan Street which is quite hidden but if you know where Tung Wah Hospital is, they are located right opposite the hospital! Oh and it's just behind one of our favourite restaurants, de amazing Corner Kitchen Cafe which we've done a write up about, make sure you check it out if you haven't already!

They have some of the most welcoming staff we have ever met. Like they came to fill our glasses for more than ten times within 2 hours, probs because they could tell we're blogger by the camera? But we were absolutely flattered #lolz

All pizza were freshly made and baked from their
brick oven and this is why the crusts are perfectly charred.

I'm never a beef person nor a big fan of eggplant and tuna so the shrimp pizza was the only option left for us haha but it didn't disappoint us, it was actually rather good!

We didn't have enough time to finish a feast because we were gonna watch Hunger Games afterwards whoop whoop! But let's be real, you could never finish a whole pizza on your own, could you?

The set lunch came with either salad or soup of the day. We didn't feel like having asparagus soup so we went for the salad which was actually not too bad but it didn't wow us. It was rather refreshing as it's got a mixture of sourness and spiciness together.

Calamari Fritti

Calamari Fritti is one of our most frequently ordered starters, so were not particularly anticipated when we ordered it, but when we had our first bites, we knew we'd order this every time when we are here. We HATE rubbery and tough calamari rings, but these rings were firm yet tender at the same time. The batter was light and crispy but didn't feel greasy at all. The only fault was that some of the batter was detached. Oh and just look again, see how each calamari ring was deep fried to a perfect golden brown. But wait till i finish the best bit, the two sauces that came alongside! The white one is aioli which had a lovely creamy flavour with a subtle note of lemon zest and garlic. The brown one was an insanely good Thai-ish chilli sauce. It was one of those taste-bud awakening flavours. The sauce was sweet but with a gorgeous kick of coriander, lime and spice. It was so good that we even dipped our pizza with it.

Shrimp & Chorizo with Avocado Base Pizza

If you have never had any pizza besides those from Pizza Hut, you will never understand how amazing these freshly baked pizza are, or in fact how rubbish those from Pizza Hut are. We ordered pizza both time; t
he first time we had Applewood Smoked Salmon Pizza and this time we had the lunch special which was the Shrimp and Chorizo Pizza.

The dough of the first pizza was perfectly baked, looked amazing, smelled even better. We loved the slightly chewy texture. It wasn't too dry and it had a really attractive charred aroma, love that! The second one, on the other hand, was slightly disappointing because of the burnt edges which tasted a bit bitter. A good pizza should have a rich blend of flavors. Low sodium pizza is just not right. The sauce base for both pizza was delicious. The first one had a classic tomato base which was overwhelmingly rich and most importantly it has enough acidity (it's just a personal preference). The second pizza has a milder avocado base because of those yummy salty chorizo.

Less than 15 days left till Christmas people! If you're watching those Zoella's Christmas vlogs to get in the holiday/ Christmassy spirit, you're not the only one *wink*. Can't wait to do nothing but stuff myself with all the yummy food and get fat and shit! Who's as excited as we are? *high five*

Perfect Saturday afternoon at Corner Kitchen Cafe

We have walked past this cafe for several times and every time we walked past, we stopped to lift up our head. The first time we stopped because of the wonderful smoky aroma of grilling meat; the second time we walked past, the handwriting on that big black menu board caught our eye (maybe the ginger guy too shh...); the third time we passed by, we heard some lovely Filipinos ladies (or Thai?) singing loud in the kitchen!

The cafe is located right opposite Hollywood Road Park; next to 208 Duecento Otto as well as a coffin shop, for those of you who can read Chinese might have already noticed it. #lolz

The atmosphere of this cafe was pretty laid back and the staff looked like they've just seen Kim K's full frontal (please google it yourself lol), they looked super chuffed! & those cakes inside that fridge, we're so coming back for them.

They have more seats available upstairs. The view is actually quite nice as you can overview Hollywood Road Park. I could just sit there with a glass of iced lemonade and daydream whole day.

We were just overwhelmed by their menu because they have so many options for brunch (was dying to try the scrambled egg, feta cheese and avocado wrap). However, it was already half 3 when we got there so there was no brunch for moi! BUT! We wouldn't have tried the two yummy burgers we had - Juicy Beef Burger ($108) and Salmon Burger ($125).

Juicy Beef Burger
While we were deciding what to order, we saw this lady sitting behind feasting on a beef burger with lava-like cheese oozing down the sides. We looked at each other and we knew we were gonna make some delicious mess.

We usually avoid ordering burgers because not only it takes a lot of effort to eat but also we have had too many terrible burgers. The beef patty is the soul of a burger and this beef patty, I mean this juicy beef patty, is exactly how a good one should be. It has subtle herb undertones; the edge is crunchy; the inside is moist and a little bit pink; and it has the perfect thickness. The melting cheese was magical - it was so gooey and rich. Together with the caramelised onions, strip of bacon, fresh lettuce and tomato, it was a Perfect-10-beef-burger.

Save the best for last - Salmon Burger
This salmon burger was EVERYTHING! When I say EVERYTHING, I MEAN EVERRRYTHING! This was prob my first ever salmon burger & I loved it! Salmon was on point, just simply amazing. It was beautifully pink, the meat was tender and moist, tasted nothing like it’d been frozen and it went perfect with the red onions and the watercress (or rocket it is).

To top it off with the refreshing wasabi mayo which I found quite unique, is it just me or you all have never had wasabi mayo? It was surprisingly good, no joke! One word, amazeballs!

Not to mention those beautiful crispy, golden brown sweet potato chips on side, need I say more? You gotta try it yourself!

Oh! They also do private parties too. We happened to see a father bringing in dozen of cupcakes with his daughter holding countless balloons as we left. Should be a fab place for great fun & giggles with sweet company.

It was overall a pleasant experience we had in this cozy place, we highly recommend this cafe for all occasions, this is just a perrrfect place for everything! We are definitely coming back for more!

From Excitement to Disappointment: Oldish

We finally got to try this cute little British restaurant on Tung Street. We had to wait outside for 30-ish mins for the window seats (I believe it's called al fresco), which we had absolutely no problem with!

Looks like a cozy place to chill. And yes they have a cute company car lol

They didn't have many food choices, in fact, there were only 5 options for lunch but that was okay, good restaurants usually don't have a large variety of choices (apparently, they proved me wrong).

We ordered Set A which was the Oldish Hash Brown ($118) and Set C which was the Roasted Chicken Breast with Waldorf Salad ($118); for drinks we had pink lemonade and iced tea. We waited for more than 30 minutes for that hash brown, I mean really?! (it says 15 mins on the menu).

Oldish Hash Borwn
When the hash brown came, we were really excited because it looks über delicious. The portion was quite generous: four slices of bacon, one perfectly-cooked runny egg, a skillet full of hash brown, some diced mushrooms, some cream cheese (I assume it was) and a slice of toasted bread.

It just looked amazing especially when it was served with a skillet. But, a huge BUT, after I had my first bite I was so disappointed. Not only it was almost tasteless, the hash brown base was totally unexpectedly hard. Not that it wasn't crispy but the potato was really hard that I started to doubt if it was fully cooked. Imagine it felt like eating sliced apple or peach (may be a rotten one).

The only thing I liked about the dish was those sautéed mushrooms. We managed to finish the whole dish because we added a lot of table salt & black pepper, and we didn't want to waste food.

Roasted Chicken Breast with Waldorf Salad
I have to say it was a rather small portion considering they charged an exorbitant price. I only ordered it because of its sexy name. First, the presentation was not quite compelling. Chicken breast was alright, it was tender yet a bit tasteless; the salad was total rubbish (don't mean to be rude but it really was amateur), I swear they have even better salad at Starbucks; don't even get me started on that two slices of toasted bread, they were just hard and they hurt the roof of my mouth.
Please tell me I am not the only one that don't like hard and cold toasts!

The staff were generally friendly and approachable, except one. This particular guy he looked/ sounded really welcoming but there was something about him that was not so welcoming at the same time. You could just feel it ugh!

It was not a very filling/ satisfying meal (we actually went to Hollywood Road for much yummier burgers afterward), I don't reckon I would ever go back again.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, see you next time.
